OUTDOOR PLAY FUNDING FOR MEELIN NATIONAL SCHOOL – MOYNIHAN

January 15th, 2010

Meelin National School is to receive €4,699 of CLÁR funding for their outdoor play facilities according to local TD Michael Moynihan. The funding is being made available under the CLÁR Primary School Outdoor Play Facilities Enhancement Scheme and is aimed at improving outdoor play facilities in small rural primary schools.

The type of projects being funded include the grassing/ tarmacadam of play areas, the supply of goals posts, nets, basketball hoops or other recreational facilities.

“This funding will come as a big boost to Meelin National School,” said Deputy Moynihan. “It will allow the school to improve their outdoor play facilities. We all know how important physical activity is in promoting a healthy lifestyle and it is vital that our children learn the benefits of activity from an early age.”

“Funding of this nature encourages the promotion of physical activity in our schools and that will have long term implications for the health of our children. I know that Meelin National School will put this funding to very good use and I hope the children at the school and the generations to come get to enjoy these new facilities,” Deputy Moynihan concluded.
