Moynihan welcomes further progress toward new Amalgamated National School for Kanturk

January 25th, 2010

Michael Moynihan TD has welcomed the announcement today from an Tánaiste Mary Coughlan TD, Minister for Education, that the new amalgamated National School planned for Kanturk has now moved to the Architectural Planning phase of building and a design team for the project will be appointed shortly.
The pupils of Kanturk deserve the best educational facilities possible, along with their families and the staff and teachers who have been serving them magnificently in less than ideal circumstances for so long.
I have put in many hours, working closely with the Minister and the Department of Education, to ensure that the Department would make the new school for Kanturk a top priority, resulting in this latest progress.
This project has been ably facilitated on the local end by Canon Jackie Corkery, whose positive, inclusive and thorough attention has been crucial in making this progress possible.
I am delighted with this move to the Architectural Planning phase of the proposed new school and wish to commend Canon Corkery and all involved for the hard work that has brought us this far.
The benefits of investment in education spread throughout a community, expanding over time into improved economic, cultural and social development. For the sake, not alone of pupils, but of the wider Kanturk area, I shall continue to urge the quickest possible development programme for the new school and all necessary Government resources for its completion to the highest standards.
