Michael Moynihan TD outlines welcomes resolution of problems with entitlement to Spouses Pension

April 7th, 2010

Deputy Michael Moynihan has welcomed the announcement by Éamon Ó Cuív, TD, Minister for Social Protection, of the full re-instatement of the pension entitlement of spouses who were engaged in working partnerships.

“I have been in contact with many constituents, particularly those from farming families, who are very anxious and worried about this situation and I am determined to leave no stone unturned to resolve this matter.

This is affecting people who have worked hard for many years with their spouses on farms and other enterprises, and it is only proper and fair that they should be entitled to the same benefits as other working people.

It is vitally important that the Government makes every possible effort to resolve this issue for these hard working people and I for one am 100 per cent committed to finding a solution to this situation.

To this end I am continuing to pursue this matter with the Government and the Department of Social and Family Affairs as much as possible and I am hopeful that a satisfactory outcome can be reached shortly.”
