Deputy Michael Moynihan has welcomed the allocation today of €3,471 in funding to Dromtariffe Active Retirement for the provision and distribution of safety/security devices to older people in Dromtariffe.
This grant was made under the Community Supports for Older People Scheme of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, and covers such devices as socially monitored alarm systems, security lighting, smoke alarms, window locks, door locks and door chains.
“I am delighted for older residents of the Dromtariffe community and for their families and friends, who will all have greater peace of mind, knowing that their security concerns can be addressed.
“ No one should live in fear in their own home, so we have a mighty responsibility to older people to help them to live in peace and safety in their own homes, especially in light of the recent spate of break-ins.
“ I have made it a priority to press for this vital service to be continued and I am delighted to have played a role in this joint project between local organisations and Government resources to support their efforts.
“ My hat is off to the local heroes who put in the effort to apply for the funding and organise the provision of the safety devices to those who need them, and I shall continue working to bring all available support to such efforts throughout Cork North West.”
